Architectural surveys
Before starting any home renovations, your surveyor will carry out a survey on the property. This is the first step in the journey towards making any structural changes to your property and one of the most important, as it offers an overview to the quality of both the property and land. At Capital Architecture, we pride ourselves on ensuring that every detail of your project site is accounted for in the planning and design phases, making sure you’re fully informed.
What is an architectural survey?
Architectural surveys are a fundamental part of the planning process. Surveys offer a detailed insight into the property structure and contribute greatly to making a fully-informed decision prior to construction. The survey itself involves examining the property and boundaries whilst taking measurements of the physical dimensions.

What are the benefits of a survey?
Precision: Choosing to do a survey means adding a layer of precision. Not only do surveyors work with cutting-edge equipment, their experience can ensure a greater degree of accuracy.
Increased Design Options: By carrying out a survey, you may find that your design options increase. The process can highlight key areas that you may not have considered, the various options will be presented by your architect post-survey.

Key points within an architectural survey:
• Accurate measuring of a site and mapping of site boundaries.
• Description of existing structures and drainage details where possible.

The next step is obtaining planning permission which we have a wealth of experience with. Our expertise in this area means that we have a 96% pass rate, meaning you can make a start right away.

How long does a survey take?
The length of a survey depends entirely on the size of the site and any complex issues that may arise during the process. We understand that once you have decided to start renovating a home it’s important to move quickly, so we aim to complete surveys efficiently but without compromising the accuracy of the process. After your initial quote, we will discuss the details with you before offering a personalised timeline based on your needs and requirements.
On average, it takes us around 4 weeks from starting to the survey to reaching the planning stage, which is significantly faster than alternative architectural firms.
